EDITORIAL SERVICES
For any given document (usually an article to be submitted to a scientific journal, a book chapter, or a grant proposal) my services ordinarily include
- Proofreading (that is, correction of spelling and typographical errors, especially those missed by electronic spell checkers)
- Grammar and punctuation checking and correction
- Suggestions for improvement in the document's organization and clarity
- Formatting of tables and figure legends to professional standards
- Checking the literature cited for completeness and formatting of entries (especially where programs like EndNote have introduced or overlooked errors)
- Bringing the document into conformity with the target journal's format specifications, especially in details not covered by, for example, the journal's word-processing templates
- If necessary, conversion from American to British spelling, punctuation, and usage or vice versa
- For book-length documents, professional indexing
Database grooming
- Correction of errors and inconsistencies introduced by downloading of bibliographic references directly into EndNote or similar programs.
- Grooming of the database's "term lists" to facilitate entry of additional records.
Other services
If you need other editorial services, not described here, please contact me. Perhaps we can work something out.
Limitations
I do not ordinarily edit documents written by students for academic credit—those should be the work of the student alone. Exceptions are possible for theses and dissertations, with the knowledge and approval of the major professor.
